Paperboard Splint

Introduction: The splint of paperboard was idealized according to the social, economic and environmental transformation of a low cost material and easy to obtain . It allows to follow  anatomical knowledge, kinesiology and biomechanical principles according to individual patient needs and conditions.

Methods: The use of paperboard splint began in 2007 being used for static and dynamic splint. The materials are paperboard, wire, glue, Velcro, elastic straps and EVA.

Result: The life span of one year, has  adjustable and satisfactory implementation. It is been used in the most of wrist, hand and finger disorders to substitute other splints and supports like made by  fiber glass and thermo plastic materials.

Conclusion: This technique and material has proved be  executable, satisfactory, inexpensive, recyclable and lets us to promote it use as alternated method in hand therapy.
