Objective: Evaluate the prevalence of radial club hand in Latin America, its characteristics and associations with other congenital deformities.

Methods: Database analysis of Latin American Collaborative Study of Congenital Disorders (ECLAMC), between 1982 and 2006. The following characteristics of radial club hand that were evaluated were: sex, birth weight, mother’s age, laterality and its associations with other congenital disorders and syndromes.

Results: The prevalence found was 1,14 per 10.000 births, with a male predominance of 54,81% of the cases. Bilaterality was present in 43,27% of the cases. We didn’t find any relationship between mother’s age and the incidence of the deformity. The majority of newborns with this abnormality, presented low weight at the time of birth (61,72%). Only 20,70% of the cases were an isolated deformity.

Conclusion: The data found was similar to that found in literature in relation to sex, laterality and associations with other congenital disorders and syndromes. However, the association among thrombocytopenia, absent radius syndrome and Fanconi anemia, didn’t show any predominance in relation to others syndromes.
